Tongatapu (Tongatapu) – the largest island of the kingdom of Tonga (Tonga). Area – more than 260 km2, and the population is about 70 thousand people.
Tongatapu is striking in the number of first -class beaches, the best of which are rightfully considered Niutoa Beach and Haatafu (Niutoa Beach) located at the western tip of the island. The capital of the country – Nukualofa (Nukualofa) – with many architectural attractions and museums is located on Tongatapu. Not far from the capital is an archaeological reserve, at the very beginning of the travelers a huge megalite of Haamonga-Maui (Ha’amonga ‘A Maui) is met by a stone gate, its weight exceeds 110 tons. Fierce disputes are going on about the origin and purpose of Haamong-Maui. Next, there are several buildings, for the most part that turned into ruins that once served as funeral complexes.
