Christmas Island Island – 48 % of the Sushi Kiribati area and is the largest coral atoll in the world. Along the shores of the lagoon, with many flickering shallows, you will appear to be a dry, unprotected landscape with a salted shrub and coconut palm trees, bright and expressive. The island is one of the largest refugees of sea birds in the world, the birthplace of millions of birds is 18 varieties, and the lagoon is saturated with the splendor of the sea life.
The island of Christmas has a colorful and ambiguous story. Captain Cook visited it on December 24, 1777, which gave the name of the island. Traces of the early Polynesians were found here. Between 1957 and 1962, the island of Christmas was a zone for testing hydrogen bombs, first the British and then Americans. Millions of birds were blinded and died later, but the deactivation campaign financed by the British in 2005 and 2006 removed almost all traces of the history of the Cold War.
Later, the island of Christmas became the resettlement center of several thousand inhabitants with a crowded atoll of grass (Tarawa), which has a strong influence on the wild nature of the island. Among the permanent visitors of the island, sports fishermen are hypnotized by the Big Albula (BoneFish), which are hidden in waters near the beaches.
