Deodorant: salvation or harm?

Deodorant: salvation or harm?

To many people, especially in the hot months, it is quite problematic to maintain personal hygiene without additional means from unpleasant odor. Here all kinds of deodorants and antiperspirants come to the rescue of humanity. It is they who help us cope with the smell of sweat and remain fresh throughout the day, or even several (as they promise in advertising).

Using these cosmetics daily, not all of us think about how dangerous these same antiperspirants can be. The deodorant looks more harmless, since its effect is based on neutralizing the smell of sweat using alcohol and flavorings. But the antiperspirants who promise freshness within 24-78 hours simply block the work of the sweat glands, which can very negatively affect the work of the entire excretory system of the human body.

In addition, many substances contained in antiperspirant deodorants are quite poisonous and can easily fall from the skin in our body. The skin in the armpits is very sensitive and thin, which facilitates this process. In addition, deodorant, unlike soap or shower gel, we do not wash off, and it remains on our body throughout the day.

However, even antiperspirants do not save some people, since they suffer from increased sweating, and at any time of the year. Excessive sweating is a pathological state of the human body, which has the name hyperhidrosis. It appears as a result of a failure in the functioning of the autonomic nervous system. Therefore, no deodorants with this problem can help.

By absorbing a deodorant, carefully study its composition and try to avoid the presence of the following components in it:

Aluminum salts (aluminum chlorhydrate, aluminum-cycle), which are contained in deodorants, contribute to the suppression of sweating by reducing the channels of the sweat glands. Researchers say that these compounds, falling into the blood, accumulate in the human body and can lead to hormonal failure (lack of estrogen). In addition, aluminum chloride is able to lead to increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Triclosan can also negatively affect the hormonal system and cause skin irritation. Soap, which contains triclosan, is not recommended for children, since it is able to damage the lipid balance of the skin of the child.

Propylene glycol (or METYLETYLGLYCOL) can already cause various allergic reactions in small quantities and is able to enhance the effect of other chemicals.

Ftalates have a negative effect on the work of the endocrine glands, weaken the effect of the male hormone testosterone, which can lead to pathologies with the development of the genital organs in the fetus during pregnancy.

Therefore, it is worth acquiring such deodorants that contain natural ingredients, such as mineral salts, white clay, rice or corn starch, natural astringent herbs and essential oils.
